11. Rothbury to Alwinton

After the last two days of isolation you may be pleased that today includes more pastures, villages and hamlets. The reward for today is to finish within a stones throw of the Cheviots, so let’s go.

The route leaves Rothbury via Brewery Lane towards Addycombe and then past Ship Crag and High Wood to Thropton. Leaving alongside the River Coquet to Warton passing Low Trewhitt Cottages to Sheperton. Crossing River Coquet once by bridge, and back again by paddling (flood alternatives are suggested), the route passes The Peels, Harbottle and Low Alwinton to Alwinton.

An alternative route from Charity Hall visits Holystone, missing Sharperton (and the paddle) and through North Wood and Woodhall Wood to Rockey’s Hall and Harbottle.
